Steve Smith yet again demonstrated why he is rated as one of the finest batters of this generation by scoring his 36th Test ton against Sri Lanka in the second Galle Test. In the process, visitors ended the second day on a dominant position and took a big lead of 73 runs. Giving Smith company was wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey, who got to his second century.
Sri Lanka bowlers did not have any answers to Smith Carey show as they looked depleated on the feild. The hosts could only pick three wickets today, and thier batters will be ruing with the fact that they failed to post a big first innings score. Lack of application from Lankan batters did thier undoing, while Smith and Carey showed plenty of patince to help Australia post a big first innings total.
Smith continued from where he left in the first Test, and yet again showed the right template to bat in sub cotinent conditions. This was the veteran batter's seventh ton Asia. No other Aussie batter has hit more hundreds in Asia than Smith.

Alex Carey proves his class by grabbing opportunities with both hands
With Josh Inglis not able to bat at number five, Carey was promoted up the order. He grabbed his chance with both hands and helped Smith play freely. The wicketkeeper batter took all the risks and allowed Australia to finish the day on a strong note. In the process he also shut down all the debates about him being the first choice wicketkeeper batter in the Test team.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka would be looking to dismiss both these batters on day three and would be loking to keep the lead down to as ow as possible.
