Gambhir Points to Lack of Adaptability
Explaining where India fell short, Gambhir said the team was unable to adjust its approach according to the conditions. He compared the current performances with India's successful 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, where the batting unit combined aggression with smart game awareness.
According to the India head coach, the top order continued to play with intent, but the middle order failed to rebuild the innings after losing wickets. That inability to absorb pressure proved to be one of the biggest reasons behind another disappointing result.
Young Squad Still Learning
Gambhir also reminded everyone that this is a relatively inexperienced Indian side. Several young players are only beginning their international careers and are still adapting to the demands of top-level cricket.
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already been trusted with the responsibility of opening the batting, while Prince Yadav is only playing his second T20I. Harshit Rana, meanwhile, has recently returned to the side after recovering from injury and is still finding his rhythm.
The former India opener believes it is unrealistic to expect immediate success from a team going through a rebuilding phase, especially against a strong England side.
