India and the West Indies have both been penalised for maintaining slow over-rates during the third and final ODI of their series in New Chandigarh on Saturday.

India were fined 20 per cent of their match fee after they were found to be four overs short of the required over-rate. The West Indies, meanwhile, were penalised 10 per cent of their match fee for falling two overs behind the stipulated rate. The calculations were made after the available time allowances had been taken into consideration.

Gill, Hope Accept ICC Sanctions

The sanctions were imposed by Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Both India captain and West Indies captain admitted to the offences and accepted the proposed penalties. As a result, formal hearings were not required.

The charges were brought forward by the match officials, with on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski joined by third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma in making the assessments.

While the slow over-rates resulted in financial penalties, the West Indies had plenty to celebrate at the end of the ODI series. Having already surrendered the three-match series after losing the opening two games, the visitors produced a memorable performance in the final match.

Shai Hope Leads Historic West Indies Chase

Chasing a challenging target of 352, the West Indies produced a record-breaking effort to complete their highest successful run chase in men's ODI cricket.

Captain Shai Hope was the star of the innings, remaining unbeaten on a magnificent 162 to guide his team across the finish line. His outstanding knock helped the West Indies end the ODI leg of their India tour on a high and secure a historic victory in New Chandigarh.

Despite the defeat in the final game, India had already secured the series 2-1 after winning the first two ODIs.

T20I Series Begins on October 6

The focus will now shift from 50-over cricket to the shortest format as India and the West Indies prepare for a five-match T20I series. The T20I leg of the tour is scheduled to begin on October 6, with both teams looking to carry the momentum from the ODI series into the upcoming contests.
