Gujarat Titans (GT) is all set to get a new owner as Torrent Group, an Indian business conglomerate is set to buy majority stake in the IPL 2022 champions GT. After several rumors of GT getting new owner before IPL 2025 were circulating, a report in ESPNcricinfo is learned that Torrent is all set to buy a whopping 67% stake in the Shubman Gill-led franchise GT from CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd), who acquired GT in 2021.
Currently, the exact details about including the valuation of stake from CVC is yet to be confirmed. As per reports, the IPL is currently imitating the paperwork process before they get the final approval of the league's governing department. After all the legal documents is completed, the Titans likely new owners could be seen in action from IPL 2025 season, which is scheduled to begin on March 21 .
For the unversed, CVC a global private equity fund, had acquired GT franchise for a staggering amount of INR 5625 crore (US$ 750 million approx.). GT made a mark immediately in IPL 2022 season as Hardik Pandya led them to title. In the following year GT were runners up, and in IPL 2024 they finished eighth on the points table. GT's all home matches are played at Narendra Modi Stadium.
Torrent Group set to enter IPL 2025 with GT
As per the reports on Company's website Torrent Group has a valuation of about INR 41,000 crore and is one of the leading top multinational companies in India. It has two major subsidiaries Torrent Power and Torrent Pharma. It is understood that Jinal Mehta, son of of the Torrent Group chairman emeritus Sudhir Mehta, will handle the IPL dealings.
Speaking about GT, they have managed to assemble a good squad ahead of IPL 2025. They have maintained the core of the squad with Gill, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and Sai Sudarshan in the mix. Gt also have a strong overseas core with Kagiso Rabada, Jos Buttler, Glenn Phillips and Gerald Coetzee in the mix. Â
