Is Rashid Khan finished? Has he become too predictable with his variations? Is his IPL career over? These were the questions the Afghan spinner faced before the Gujarat Titan's (GT) clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 23 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Rashid put all the questions to rest when he picked up two wickets giving away 37 runs in four overs and helped GT resister a thumping 58-run win over RR at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
RR started the 218-run chase on an inauspicious note as they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) runs and Nitish Rana (1) run in the power play. Skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag steadily built the RR innings by taking calculative risks and ensured they finished strongly at 57 runs in the power play. However, after the first six overs, GT kept chipping in with wickets and yet again showed why they are rated best in the bowling department in the middle phase of the innings.
RR batters just could not break free as Prasidh Krishna, Rashid, and Sai Kishore were exceptional in this phase of the innings. Prasidh continued his impressive form as he picked up three wickets giving away just 24 runs.
GT goes first on the points table, RR slips to the seventh position
On account of this thumping win, GT have now leapfrogged DC to be first on the points table. They have registered their fourth win, and are looking solid with bat and ball. Meanwhile, RR have slipped to seventh position on the points table. They have now lost three games, and their bowling is looking extremely patchy.
