Punjab Kings (CSK) are chasing a stiff total of 191 runs to win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk on Wednesday, April 30. The Kings are looking to get to 12 points and get up the ladder.
The innings was started by the PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. The Punjab openers have been very aggressive throughout the season and started the chase on an aggressive note as well.
The duo added 44 runs inside the first five overs. While the southpaw attacked from the very first ball, Prabhsimran was a bit tentative to start his innings. The partnership was finally broken by CSK pacer Khaleel Ahmed (1 wicket for 23 runs) who dismissed Priyansh Arya (23 runs off 15 balls). On the other hand, Prabhsimran Singh (40 runs off 27 balls) also managed to avoid a close shout from Ravindra Jadeja ( 17 runs in 2 overs) as they reached 51/1 after the powerplay.
Iyer-Prabhsimran Keep The Chase On For PBKS
Noor Ahmad (18 runs in 2 overs) came into bowl just outside the powerplay. He went for seven runs off his first over as Shreyas Iyer ( 22 runs off 17 balls) and Prabhsimran continued the innings for Punjab after the loss of Priyansh Arya. Both Iyer and Prabhsimran continued to play the aggressive shots outside the powerplay as well. They kept up with the asking rate, scoring at nine runs per over as Punjab reached 88/1 after their first 10 overs, with them needing 103 runs from the last 10 overs.
Previously in the game, CSK on the back of Sam Curran's (88 runs off 47 balls) reached 190 after the end of their 20 overs. Curran was helped by Dewald Brevis (32 runs off 26 balls) as the two added 78 runs together for the fourth wicket.
CSK was well-placed to score over 200. However, Yuzvendra Chahal's hat-trick (4 wickets for 32 runs) derailed their innings in the final three overs. Chahal took his hat-trick in the 19th over, which was the second of his IPL career.
As said earlier, CSK will almost be out of the race for the playoffs if they lose this match against Punjab Kings at home.
