GT spinners and pacers shine to restrict MI to 155/8 in 20 overs at Wankhede; key wickets from Sai Kishore and Rashid halt MI’s big finish.
Sai Kishore breaks the partnership
Will Jacks reached his fifty off 29 balls, partnering with Suryakumar Yadav to contribute to a solid fifty-run stand. The Mumbai Indians appeared well set for a big finish, amassing 100 runs by the end of 11 overs. Surya Kumar Yadav continued to play impressive shots, finding some handy boundaries, while Will Jacks struck a few sixes. However, Sai Kishore made a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Surya Kumar Yadav for 35 runs off 24 balls, making up for a dropped catch earlier in the innings.
Rashid Khan Delivers
Rashid Khan, who had a good start, claimed his first wicket by dismissing Will Jacks, bringing Tilak Varma to the crease. This shifted the momentum back to the Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gill then reintroduced Sai Kishore, who took the vital wicket of Hardik Pandya. The Mumbai Indians suffered a major collapse, losing their next three wickets in rapid succession, going from 97/2 to 106/5 in just three overs, thanks to the spinners' effective bowling.
Once the spinners had delivered a critical blow, Shubman Gill brought in pacer Gerald Coetzee, who made an immediate impact by dismissing Tilak Varma for just 7 runs off 7 balls. At this stage, the Mumbai Indians found themselves at 113/6 at the end of 14 overs, with Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch at the crease as the players took a break.
Naman Dhir was the next to fall, out for 7 runs off 10 balls after Prasidh Krishna took his first wicket. Although MI lost yet another batter, their batting depth came to the fore, as Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar formed a partnership that took MI to 129/7 by the end of 18 overs, with 12 balls remaining in the innings.
Mohammed Siraj bowled a tight over, conceding only 8 runs, with Corbin Bosch managing to hit one boundary. Prasidh Krishna bowled the final over, where Corbin Bosch started strongly with two big shots, bringing MI back into contention.
However, Krishna responded well, delivering a sharp bouncer that struck Bosch’s helmet after a missed pull shot, prompting a mandatory concussion check as Bosch looked a bit dazed. Once the game resumed, Bosch was run out while attempting a quick double, finishing with 27 runs off 22 balls.Â
GT restricts MI to a under par total
Karn Sharma joined Deepak Chahar with only 2 balls remaining, and Chahar concluded the innings with a boundary. The Mumbai Indians ended their innings with a modest total of 155/8 in 20 overs.Â
