Pakistan's defeat at the hands of India in the ongoing Champions Trophy has dashed their hopes of qualifying for the semi-final. The Men in Green had already lost their opening match of the Champions Trophy to New Zealand by 60 runs and had come to face India in Dubai in a do-or-die match. However, the Mohammad Rizwan-led stumbled and now don't have their fate in their own hands. With two losses on the bounce from two games, Pakistan will now need to beat Bangladesh and hope other results go their way for them to qualify for the semis.

Not only a win, but Pakistan needs to beat Bangladesh by a huge margin to turn their current negative net run rate into a positive one. A win of around 100 runs is needed for Men in Green to get back into contention for the semi-final in the Champions Trophy. So will a win against Bangladesh be enough for Pakistan to qualify for the semis?

Pakistan dependent on India Bangladesh & New Zealand

A huge win against Bangladesh will only solve half the problem for Pakistan. For the rest, they need huge favors from the rest of the teams in Group A -India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Bangladesh and India have to beat New Zealand by big margins. If this happens, then New Zealand and Bangladesh will have equal wins, & points as Pakistan in Group A. If these results go their way, then there will be a three-way tie for the next team to qualify for the semis along with India.

If either Bangladesh or India loses to New Zealand

If New Zealand manages to secure a win against either Bangladesh or India, regardless of the margin, then they will be through to the semi-final. If this happens, then Pakistan's dream of defending the Champions Trophy will be over.  New Zealand will face Bangladesh on Monday, February 24 in Rawalpindi. If the Mitchell Santner-led side wins that match, then Pakistan are out even before playing their last group-stage match against Bangladesh.
