Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will square off in the 70th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) scheduled at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on May 27.
It is an important fixture for RCB. A win would push them into the top two, confirming their place in the Qualifier 1 alongside Punjab Kings (PBKS). For Lucknow, it is a chance to spoil RCB’s party. They would aim to end the season on a positive note and come back stronger next year.
LSG, led by Rishabh Pant, have had a mixed campaign with six wins and seven losses. It has been a season of what-ifs for them as they cannot make the playoffs but were well in the race at one stage.
Their top-order, including Mitchell Marsh (560 runs), Aiden Markram (445 runs) and Nicholas Pooran (511 runs), has done well in IPL 2025, doing the heavy-lifting for them. In their previous match as well against Gujarat Titans (GT), these batters clicked, especially Marsh, who smashed a century. LSG scored 235 runs and won by 33 runs.
With eight wins in the bank, RCB are still in with a shout for a top-two finish, a golden ticket to Qualifier 1. Virat Kohli has been their leading-scorer with 548 runs.
The return of Josh Hazlewood is expected to add much-needed balance to their bowling unit. But it will be interesting to see if RCB risk him putting into the playing 11 straightaway. Tim David, who injured himself while fielding in the last match versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is unlikely to be available.
