Rain is once again expected to play a major role when India take on New Zealand in the second ODI in Wellington on Saturday. With persistent showers forecast throughout the day, concerns are growing over another weather-affected contest between the two sides.
India currently lead the three-match ODI series 1-0 after securing an impressive five-wicket victory in the opening encounter in Auckland. The visitors will now look to extend their advantage, while New Zealand will be desperate to bounce back and level the series.
Persistent Showers Could Disrupt Wellington Clash
Persistent rain affected preparations for Saturday's match, with both teams forced to change their training schedules on Friday. Originally scheduled to practise at Basin Reserve, the teams had to adjust their plans because of the wet conditions. New Zealand shifted their training session to the indoor facilities at Wellington College, while the Indian team decided to cancel its practice altogether.
According to AccuWeather, Wellington is expected to experience a 60 per cent chance of precipitation during the first half of Saturday, followed by a 55 per cent chance in the second half. These forecasts have raised doubts over whether the second ODI will be able to proceed without interruptions.
India Aim for Back-to-Back Wins
The opening match in Auckland was also affected by rain, with the start delayed by 10 minutes. Further interruptions during India's chase resulted in their target being revised from 186 runs in 50 overs to 143 in 32 overs.
India eventually completed the chase comfortably, winning by five wickets. Virat Kohli produced an outstanding performance with the bat, scoring 74 off just 51 deliveries. Anshul Kamboj was named Player of the Match for his impressive bowling figures of 2/22 in 10 overs.
