Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has revealed that discussions are still ongoing with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the possibility of rescheduling India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh.
India were originally scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in August and September. However, the series is unlikely to take place during the previously agreed window due to the current situation between the two neighbouring countries.
Despite the uncertainty, Tamim insisted that the series has not been cancelled yet and said both boards remain committed to finding a suitable window.
BCB and BCCI Searching for New Dates
According to Tamim, regular communication between the two boards is continuing, with both sides examining their busy international schedules to identify possible dates.
He said the intentions of both BCB and BCCI are positive and that discussions are already taking place regarding a potential new window. Bangladesh also have several other series scheduled, while India’s packed calendar makes finding suitable dates difficult.
Tamim added that some factors are beyond the control of the cricket boards, but stressed that negotiations are continuing in a positive manner.
Tamim Regrets Bangladesh's World Cup Decision
Tamim also reflected on Bangladesh’s decision to withdraw from the latest ICC T20 World Cup, saying the country could have handled the situation through better negotiations.
He acknowledged that the controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman and his release from Kolkata Knight Riders before the 2026 IPL caused widespread disappointment in Bangladesh. However, Tamim believes the subsequent negotiations eventually reached a point where there was little room for compromise.
Sports Should Be Kept Separate From Politics
Tamim argued that sporting events should, whenever possible, remain separate from political disputes. He pointed to Iran competing in the United States despite the ongoing conflict between the two countries as an example of how sport can continue despite political tensions.
He admitted that he knows details about the World Cup negotiations that cannot be made public because of his responsibilities within the ICC. However, he maintained that Bangladesh should have approached the situation more carefully and strategically.
Tamim concluded that Bangladesh should have participated in the World Cup and handled the negotiations in a more effective manner.
