Mumbai Indians have begun shaping their squad for the upcoming TATA Women’s Premier League 2027 season, announcing the release of six players from their 2026 group. The franchise confirmed the departures on September 28, as attention now turns towards the WPL Auction in Kochi on October 28.
The players released by Mumbai Indians are Poonam Khemnar, Saika Ishaque, Triveni Vasistha, Nalla Reddy, Milly Illingworth and G. Kamilini.
MI Part Ways With Six Players
The decision marks the end of a chapter for the six players, who were part of Mumbai Indians' squad during the previous season. While the franchise has retained a strong core featuring established names and emerging talent, the releases will give MI additional flexibility as they prepare to rebuild their squad ahead of WPL 2027.
Among the released players, Saika Ishaque is a notable name. The left-arm spinner has previously featured prominently in Mumbai Indians' WPL setup and has been part of the franchise's journey since the early stages of the competition.
Poonam Khemnar also departs after being part of the MI squad, while Triveni Vasistha and Nalla Reddy have been released as Mumbai Indians reassess their options ahead of the auction.
Six Players Now Enter The Auction Pool
The release of Milly Illingworth and G. Kamilini completes the list of six players who will no longer be part of Mumbai Indians' retained group for the 2027 season. Their next opportunity in the competition could come through the auction, where franchises will look to fill gaps in their respective squads.
Mumbai Indians have retained 11 players, including captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur, Nicola Carey, Rahila Firdous, S. Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta, Shabnim Ismail and Vaishnavi Sharma.
With six players released, the franchise will now head into the auction with scope to add fresh faces and strengthen its squad. The WPL Auction is scheduled for October 28, 2026, in Kochi, while the 2027 season is set to take place from January 14 to February 7.
For the released players, the focus will now shift towards the auction and the possibility of beginning a new chapter in the WPL.
