India cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife, choreographer Dhanashree Verma, arrived at the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai for a pivotal hearing in their ongoing divorce case on Thursday. The former couple appeared to finalise their separation, just two days before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 kicks off.
Chahal and Dhanashree, masked and discreet, hurried into the court premises, visibly avoiding the media spotlight.
This hearing follows a directive from the Bombay High Court, which overturned a prior family court ruling and waived the mandatory six-month cooling-off period under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. The High Court, presided over by Justice Madhav Jamdar, instructed the family court to resolve the divorce petition by March 20, citing Chahal’s imminent IPL commitments with Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The couple had jointly filed for divorce by mutual consent after living separately for over two and a half years.
Alimony Amount and Payment Terms
Chahal has committed to paying Dhanashree Rs 4.75 crore, with Rs 2.37 crore already transferred as alimony. The Bombay High Court noted that the remaining amount would be settled post-divorce decree, a condition that facilitated the waiver of the cooling-off period.
Earlier, rumors of a Rs 60 crore alimony demand were dismissed by Dhanashree’s family in a statement that read:
"We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear—no such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumors whatsoever. It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation. Reckless reporting like this only causes harm, and we urge the media to exercise restraint and fact-check before spreading misinformation and also be respectful towards everyone’s privacy."
Yuzvendra Chahal Spotted With RJ Mahvash
Chahal was spotted with radio jockey and a social media influencer RJ Mahvash at the Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai on March 9. They were seen cheering during India’s triumph over New Zealand, igniting speculation about Chahal’s dating life. However, Mahvash denied such claims.

Chahal is set to shift his focus to the IPL, where he will represent Punjab Kings after being acquired for a whopping Rs 18 crore at the 2025 auction. The leg-spinner, a key asset with his crafty variations, will aim to justify the hefty price tag with PBKS scheduled to start their campaign against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 25 in Ahmedabad.
