Teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 compete for automatic spots in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier by aiming for a top-four finish. This goal is crucial for all eight teams aspiring to secure a World Cup berth. A bottom-four finish doesn't eliminate teams from contention but requires them to participate in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, alongside the top four teams from the Cricket World Cup Challenge League. This Play-off serves as a repechage tournament, offering teams a chance to regain Cricket World Cup qualification.
However, poor performance in League 2 could lead to relegation to the Challenge League, heightening the stakes of the competition. Teams are awarded 2 points for each win, each nation will host three series and play a further six series away from home (for a total of 36 matches). Teams will play a tri-series in all but one of the other competing nations.
