India's Disastrous Batting Display

Kuldeep Yadav joined Rishabh Pant in the middle, but it was all one-way traffic as Matt Henry claimed another wicket, dismissing a settled Pant. India’s hopes dimmed as Jasprit Bumrah followed, attempting an aggressive shot and getting caught by Henry at long leg. It was a brilliant catch and this marked O’Rourke's fourth wicket of the innings.

In came Siraj, who played a wonderful shot for a boundary—this was the third boundary of India's innings. Both Siraj and Kuldeep tried to hold on for as long as possible, but Matt Henry dismissed Kuldeep Yadav, completing his five-wicket haul and leaving India all out for just 46 runs. This is India's third-lowest test total ever and the lowest total at home.

The New Zealand bowlers were the heroes of the match; they made batting look simple by hitting the right areas and lengths, forcing Indian batters into poor shots after extended pressure. Their game plan worked exceptionally well, with Willam O'Rourke taking 4 wickets for 22 runs and Matt Henry achieving 5 wickets for 15 runs to bundle India out with ease.

New Zealand Takes on the Indian Bowling

New Zealand openers Devon Conway and captain Tom Latham strode to the crease under clear skies for the first time in this Test, with Jasprit Bumrah holding the new ball. The innings began with an outside edge finding the boundary, signaling the start of a challenging phase for the Indian bowlers. Despite hopes for overcast conditions, the sunny weather favored the New Zealand batters, allowing them to tackle the pace of Siraj and Bumrah effectively, even as they faced some tight bowling.

Rohit Sharma brought in Ravi Ashwin in the seventh over to regain control, but both Kiwi batsmen countered with aggressive shots, employing the sweep and reverse sweep to disrupt Ashwin's rhythm. Devon Conway hit a stunning six off Ashwin at Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the pair quickly established a solid partnership, reaching a 50-run stand within just 12 overs.

Siraj nearly claimed Tom Latham's wicket, but KL Rahul missed a crucial catch at second slip, allowing the ball to race to the boundary. New Zealand continued to build their innings, with Conway reaching his fifty in style with another six against Ashwin. Frustrated, Indian captain Rohit brought in Kuldeep Yadav, who eventually broke the partnership by trapping Latham LBW for 15 runs, leaving the scoreboard at 73/1.

Will Young joined Conway, and the pair batted effectively until tea, concluding the session with New Zealand at 82/1. Their excellent performance on the pitch maintained the momentum after a promising start with the ball.
