BPL Money Issue

The non-payment issue at Durbar Rajshahi continues to escalate, with several foreign players now stranded in their hotel in Dhaka following their elimination from the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

What’s Happening in the Bangladesh Premier League?

Rajshahi’s failure to pay its players has been making headlines for weeks. The players were forced to cover their expenses for over a week in January as the franchise missed daily allowance payments. Although Rajshahi promised to pay up, they missed subsequent deadlines, leaving the situation unresolved. After being eliminated from the competition, overseas players stuck in Dhaka, still waiting for their return flights more than 24 hours after their loss to Khulna Tigers.

Mohammad Haris, Aftab Alam, Mark Deyal, Ryan Burl, and Miguel Cummins were among the stranded players. They have also not received their daily allowances for the past 11 days.

Delayed Payments and Growing Frustration

Typically, BPL players receive 25% of their fees upfront before the tournament starts, with the remaining 75% paid during and after the competition. By February 7, players should have received their full 75% payment, with the final portion due by March 8. However, not only have the players not been paid, but even the bus drivers who transported them during the tournament have protested.

The bus driver, Mohammad Babul, locked the players' kit bags and belongings inside the bus, stating that they would not be returned until payment was made. “It’s a matter of regret and shame,” Babul said. “If they had paid us, we would have given the kit bags back. Till now, I have kept quiet, but now I’m saying that we can leave if they clear our payment.”

“The kit bags of local and foreign cricketers are still in the bus, but I cannot return them as a large portion of our remuneration is still unpaid,” he added.

The situation has forced the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to step in, taking legal action against the Rajshahi franchise. Meanwhile, local cricketers in Chattogram have boycotted practice sessions in solidarity. In a dramatic move, overseas players also refused to play a BPL game against Rangpur Riders in protest, violating tournament rules.

The ongoing saga highlights the serious financial mismanagement facing Rajshahi and the growing unrest among players, staff, and officials.

Owner Promises to Settled the Dues

Durbar Rajshahi franchise owner, Shafiqul Rahman, was taken into custody by law enforcement and has confessed to multiple violations. He has now pledged to clear all outstanding payments in installments, with full settlement promised by February 10.
