England will take on Sri Lanka on Saturday, October 11, in the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. England are coming off successive wins against South Africa and Bangladesh, although they were given a mighty scare by the Asian side in a tricky chase of 180. If not for former skipper Heather Knight's calm and composed knock, England would have suffered a defeat for the first time in ODIs against Bangladesh. In the first game against South Africa, English batters did not have much work to do, as their bowlers did the demolition job and shot the team to just 69. However, against Bangladesh, England batters struggled to the in-swing bowling of Marufa Akhter and to the spin of Fahima Khatun. Sri Lanka has a decent bowling attack with plenty of variation. If somehow they manage to restrict England to below a total of 250, they will fancy their chances of chasing it.
However, for that to materialize, they need their talismanic skipper Chamari Athapattu to fire and lead the batting department. The southpaw has the ability to win matches of her own, and the team often looks up to the senior player to give the team a good start. England also have plenty of slow bowlers like Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, and Linsey Smith who can exploit the Colombo surface.
