Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12. He retired just ahead of India's tour to England for a five-match Test series. He retired just 770 runs short of 10000 Test runs.

Kohli retired as the fourth-highest run-getter for India in Test cricket after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. Besides that, he was the most successful Test skipper for India with 40 wins in 68 Test matches.

Virat Kohli's decision to retire from Test cricket has opened up options for the number four slot in the Indian Test side. Meanwhile, with Rohit Sharma also retiring from the format, the opening slot is also up for grabs as well.

Several Options For Number 4 Option In Test Cricket

Several Indian cricketers are in the fray to replace Kohli in the Test side, with Karun Nair and Shreyas Iyer, the two most promising names at the moment. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is a viable option to replace Rohit as the opener.

Kohli has 30 Test centuries, which ranks him fourth in the list of Indian batters with most centuries in Test cricket. Sachin Tendulkar (51), Rahul Dravid (36) and Sunil Gavaskar (34) are ahead of him in the tally.

Talking about his list of ODI centuries, Kohli as of now has 51 ODI hundreds. he is topping the list in international cricket. Only Sachin Tendulkar is close to him with 49 ODI hundreds to his name. Rohit Sharma (31), Ricky Ponting (30) and Sanath Jayasuriya (28) is next best on the list.

Talking about T20I cricket, Kohli retired from T20I cricket after India's victorious campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024. Kohli has 38 fifties in T20I cricket and just one T20I hundred against Afghanistan that he scored in the Asia Cup 2023.
