Led by Brian Lara, the West Indies Masters started their campaign on a high, pulling off a record run-chase versus Australia Masters. Bowling first, the West Indies conceded 216 runs. On a batting-friendly surface, Ashley Nurse and Ravi Rampaul did well, claiming three and two wickets respectively.

On the contrary, England Masters had a horrible first outing in the tournament when they faced India Masters. While their batters could only muster 132 runs in 20 overs, their bowling did not do well either and let India cross the finish line in just 11.4 overs.
