Australia has been dealt with huge blow as all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against India due to side soreness on Friday, October 17. Marnus Labuschagne has been recalled to the team to replace the youngster for the ODI series starting on Sunday, October 19.

According to cricket.com.au, the injury to Green has been diagnosed as low grade, and the decision to pull him out has been taken as a precautionary measure, as the management wants to him to be available and fit for the upcoming Winter Ashes. The all-rounder is expected to return for Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield on October 28. Labuschagne, who was initially snubbed for the series, finds a place in the team after scoring his fourth hundred of the domestic season for Queensland.

"Green will complete a short period of rehabilitation and is tracking to return to play in round three of the Sheffield Shield to continue his preparation for the Ashes," Cricket Australia said in a statement on Friday morning.

Green's untimely injury has now opened the door for Matthew Renshaw's debut at the pivotal number four position in the first ODI against India in Perth on Sunday. The southpaw has averaged 50, striking at better than run-a-ball over the past four ODI Cup seasons. The opener's consistency was one of the main factors behind his earning a national call-up.

Australia grapple with injury issues

Notably, Green's injury has added another name to the growing list of players to be ruled out of the India ODI series. Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa have already been ruled out of the first ODI, with Josh Philippe being named replacement for Inglis, as he continues his recovery from a calf strain. On the other hand, Matthew Kuhnemann will replace Zampa, who is out due to family reasons.

Skipper Pat Cummins is out of the white-ball series as he continues his recovery from a back injury. Several reports are circulating that the pacer might miss the first two Ashes Tests against England.
