Yashasvi Jaiswal's much anticipated ODI debut failed to live up to expectations as the southpaw departed for just 15 runs in pursuit of 249 run chase against England in the first ODI. Skipper Rohit Sharma's poor run continued as he could score only two runs. Nonetheless, India's resurrected the innings through Shreyas Iyer, who scored a brisk 59 off just 36 balls.
Iyer, who has built the reputation of the enforcer in the Indian ODI team yet again proved to be a game changer. Shreyas Iyer's cameo puts India on the brink of victory
Iyer's scintillating cameo has put India on the brink of victory in the first ODI. With only 115 runs to get, Iyer has made sure that India's lower order did not take any undue risks. With dew also coming in, it will be hard for England spinners to grip the ball. Also, with no Virat Kohli, Gill is set to anchor the rest of the innings.
Giving Iyer company was Shubham Gill, who happily played second fiddle. The youngster, who has built a reputation as India's anchor, yet again made a mark with a solid stand of 50-plus stand with Iyer.
