The India Women’s team tour of Australia started on a disappointing note with a loss in the first ODI, and their struggles continued in the second match as they suffered another heavy defeat. Australia now leads the series 2-0, with their dominant performance in Brisbane, where centuries from Ellyse Perry and young Georgia Voll guided them to a commanding victory.
Australia Put up a Huge Total on Board
Australia won the toss and chose to bat on a solid surface, with both teams making one change to their line-up. Australia’s opening pair of Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll walked in to face Renuka Singh, who was handed the new ball. The Aussies had a fantastic start, with their opening partnership reaching 130 in just 20 overs before a breakthrough, with Litchfield dismissed by Saima Thakor. However, the batting dominance continued as Georgia Voll scored her maiden ODI century in just two matches. Ellyse Perry soon joined the party, bringing up her century and making history as the first cricketer to score over 6000 runs and take 300 wickets in the ODI format. Perry's remarkable achievement continues to solidify her legacy as one of the game's greatest players.
India’s bowlers struggled to break the strong Australian partnerships, as Australia posted an imposing total of 371/8 in their 50 overs. Despite a few chances for India, they couldn’t capitalize on them, and late wickets weren’t enough to prevent Australia from finishing with a massive total
India loses out on Massive Pressure.
Chasing 372, India’s openers, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh, took to the crease, but Mandhana's poor form continued, as she was dismissed for just 9 runs. While the Indian batters started well, they couldn’t keep up with the required run rate, and their inability to convert good starts into big scores cost them dearly. Richa Ghosh, who scored a solid fifty, along with Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and debutant Minnu Mani, fought hard but fell short. India was eventually dismissed for 249 runs, losing the match by 122 runs. Ellyse Perry was named Player of the Match for her outstanding century, while Annabel Sutherland was the pick of the bowlers, with an economical spell and 4 wickets that helped Australia dominate.
India's ongoing struggles in Australia have been evident in both ODIs, as they continue to falter in key moments with both bat and ball. While individual players like Richa Ghosh fought valiantly, the team as a whole failed to execute their plans, which led to another heavy defeat. Australia’s clinical performance, highlighted by Perry’s historical achievement and Sutherland’s impressive bowling, has put them firmly in control of the series. With India now trailing 2-0, they face a tough challenge ahead to find their rhythm and make a comeback in the remaining matches. The tour has underscored the need for a stronger all-round performance from the Indian team if they are to compete with a dominant Australian side.
