Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their third IPL title by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 26, 2024, in Chennai. It was KKR's third IPL title and the first that they won after a decade. Ironically, exactly a year later, SRH defeated KKR in their last game of the season.
Gautam Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles (2012 and 2014). Ten years later, he joined the franchise as their mentor and turned their fortunes around. He made an immediate impact as the side played a fearless brand of cricket and won their third title.
Shreyas Iyer who joined KKR in IPL 2022 helped them win their third IPL title in the third year of his captaincy. That was also Shreyas's first IPL title after he took Delhi Capitals to the playoffs in IPL 2019 and 2020.

On Monday, May 26, KKR celebrated their one-year anniversary of their third IPL title. KKR's official Twitter handle shared a post celebrating the iconic moment.
"A day that will live in our hearts, forever, Celebrating 1 year of our third IPL crown" KKR captioned the post. The post had every KKR player who was part of their 2024 success, barring Shreyas Iyer. It was in many ways, a disrespect to the services he provided to the franchise.
The franchise decided to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. They did not buy him back alongside other key players like Mitchell Starc and Phil Salt.
Iyer was roped in by Punjab Kings at a mammoth price and he took them to the playoffs for the first time in a decade. He paired up beautifully with Ricky Ponting to Punjab's fortunes around after helping KKR break their title jinx.
In IPL 2025, KKR badly missed the services of Iyer, Salt and Starc as they finished eighth in the IPL 2025 points table under Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane top-scored for them with 390 runs in the season. None of the other batters crossed 250 as they had problems figuring out their best XI, besides their key players not stepping up.
