The five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have encountered a significant setback as their leading run-scorer of the ongoing season, young Ayush Mhatre, suffered a level 2 hamstring injury while batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.
Major Blow for Chennai Super Kings as Ayush Mhatre Ruled Out
Ayush Mhatre was performing well during the power play when he injured his hamstring. Though the physios came to attend to him, he continued batting but eventually lost his wicket and left the field limping in pain. Initially, it was predicted that he would miss a minimum of three games.
However, the latest official announcement from CSK has confirmed that Mhatre will be out for the remainder of the season. Given that the CSK camp is already dealing with several injuries, Ayush Mhatre unfortunately joins that list.
Here is CSK’s official statement:
“Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out for the rest of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. His injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6 to 12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery.”
Squad Challenges Mount for Chennai Super Kings
In light of this injury, CSK has already begun searching for a replacement. They are exploring options for Khaleel Ahmed and Akash Madhwal and have recently invited Rajavarthan Hangarerkar and a few uncapped players for trials, as the trading window remains open until each team has played seven matches.
As things stand, CSK has played 2 out of their 6 matches, and they are set to face the Mumbai Indians next, with Urvil Patel expected to replace Ayush Mhatre at Wankhede Stadium.
