Rishabh Pant was signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for 27 crores during the mega auction in 2024, becoming their marquee signing and captain. However, the team under his leadership has struggled, finishing 7th in 2025 and 10th in 2026.
As a batter, Pant's performance has also been below expectations, with averages of 24 in 2025 and 32 in 2026. His most notable innings during this period was a century—118 not out—against RCB, which stands out as a highlight of his tenure as captain.
Franchise Releases Official Statement on Social Media
After a disappointing season, Pant resigned from his captaincy, and head coach Justin Langer accepted his resignation. The franchise announced their social media platforms, stating,
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) wish to formally announce that Rishabh Pant has requested to be relieved of his captaincy duties with the franchise, and the franchise has accepted his request with immediate effect.”
“Rishabh approached the franchise with this request, and we have respectfully accepted it. These decisions are never easy. We are grateful for everything Rishabh has brought to this dressing room as captain. Our focus now is on the collective—rebuilding and restructuring to reach the best standards,” the statement added.
