While the next Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) season is still nine months away, the news from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp is that Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson might play for MS Dhoni's team. While there is no official confirmation from the CSK's side, recent likes and following from the RR wicketkeeper-batter indicate he might ditch the IPL 2008 champions for CSK.
CSK's official Instagram page is also following Samson, which has got rumor mills buzzing that the five-time champions are interested in roping in the services of the experienced Kerala batter. For the unversed, during the IPL 2025 season, there were several reports that the RR captain had a tiff with RR head coach Rahul Dravid.

While the former India captain denied the rumor, reports suggest otherwise, that Samson might have played his last season for RR.
Why is CSK interested in roping Sanju Samson?
With Dhoni likely to call it quits from IPL after one or two seasons, or after the IPL 2025 season, CSK wants to invest in a bankable and solid wicketkeeper-batter. Apart from keeping, the right-hand batter also offers a leadership option. He has been the leader of RR for the past three years. Also, with over 100 IPL games, the Kerala batter is a reliable option at the top order.

For the majority of the IPL 2025 season, CSK struggled to bat aggressively in the power play. Samson, who has a strike of over 140, can provide the side explosive starts at the top, and is also safe as a house behind the stumps.
