Former Indian leader MS Dhoni is once again in the limelight, as he has reportedly once again been offered a mentoring role by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Previously, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) keeper-batter had done a mentoring role during the T20 World Cup 2021. However, that stint ended on a sour note as India crashed out of the showpiece event in the first round itself.
However, according to the CricBlogger report, this time the CSK star has been offered with a more expansive proposal, with the Board keen to have his involvement across all its national teams - seniors, juniors, and also possibly women's cricket. Dhoni is the national team's most successful captain and the only leader to win all ICC events. He continuous to be one of the strongest voice in Indian cricket, with the BCCI deeply valuing his astute brain and composed temperament. The Board feels his presence could play a pivotal role in shaping India's next generation.

A senior BCCI official told CricBlogger, "MS Dhoni is again offered to mentor Indian cricket." However, despite a strong push by BCCI, multiple reasons suggest that the veteran might not take the offer right away. Notably, the CSK star has always been choosy about his commitments since calling it quits in international cricket on August 15, 2020. While the offer has not officially been confirmed, the legendary cricketer has refused into any long-term involvement with the national team.
MS Dhoni's likely refusal due to his CSK commitments
Secondly, the current Indian team environment under head coach Gautam Gambhir could influence his decision to refuse the role. With the southpaw in charge, Dhoni could be wary of creating conflict or disagreeing on certain points. Both these players share a complicated equation dating back to their playing days, and the CSK star has always avoided unnecessary controversy.

Moreover, Dhoni has set his sights on his likely last season with CSK in the IPL 2026 season. The veteran is expected to give his all and try to win his sixth IPL title for CSK. Mentoring India at this juncture would require him to fully focus on that, which he is unlikely to do. There are swirling reports that this could be his last season with his beloved CSK.
