New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Women 1st ODI: Pitch Report & Weather Updates

Summary

Pitch report and weather update for the first ODI scheduled between New Zealand and Sri Lanka on March 4 at the McLean Park, Napier.

New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Pitch Report Weather Updates

Sri Lanka Women embark on a white-ball tour of New Zealand. The two teams will clash in three ODIs and as many T20Is. The first ODI is scheduled to take place on March 4 at the McLean Park in Napier.

New Zealand Women are coming fresh from their heroics in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, their recent performance in the ODI format is not very impressive. They last played an ODI in December 2024 and lost that series to Australia 2-0.

The White Ferns are also without many of their key players. Their full-time skipper Sophie Devine has opted for a break. Suzie Bates will be at the helm in her place. Amelia Kerr is busy with her Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 commitments. Bella James and Hayley Jensen are injured. They are replaced by Lauren Down and Fran Jonas respectively. Lea Tahuhu, Rosemary Mair and Molly Penfold will also miss the series due to injuries.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka will head to the series under the leadership of Chamari Athapaththu. Ireland beat them 2-1 when they last played an ODI series.

New Zealand are a far superior side as compared to Sri Lanka. However, if the Sri Lankan players put their best foot forward, they have it in them to challenge New Zealand.
