The Pakistan ODI Tri-Series, involving New Zealand and South Africa, kicks off with the first ODI today in Lahore. Pakistan takes on New Zealand in the first ODI starting at 2:30 pm IST local time.
The Tri-Series is seen as a dress rehearsal for all three teams involved in the major ICC event. Pakistan, the proud hosts of the series and the defending champions of the Champions Trophy have a chance to dominate the other two teams at home.
Pakistan's newly appointed ODI skipper Mohammad Rizwan will lead them in the Tri-Series and the Champions Trophy. The squad selected for the Tri-Series is almost the same as for the Champions Trophy.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will be led by Mitchell Santner in the series. Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson the experienced players are also a part of the ODI tri-series. The left-arm spinner will also lead the side in the Champions Trophy.

The two teams are well-versed playing against each other in ICC tournaments. Both teams have a few big names. The match will be important for the likes of Babar Azam and Kane Williamson. Williamson and Conway played in the SA20 recently scored some quality runs and have form with them at the moment.  Babar Azam has been struggling for form for a long time and this is his opportunity to get some runs under his belt before the Champions Trophy. He is likely to open in the first ODI and all eyes will be on him as to how he responds under pressure.
With Pakistan having all their three premier pacers in the squad, the first ODI will be an intense battle between Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah against the Kiwi batters. Mohammad Hasnain is the fourth seamer with Abrar Ahmed as the specialist spinner.
