Now, after a seven-year hiatus, this beloved tournament is making a triumphant return, promising to reignite the excitement and charm of its early days.
The Hong Kong Sixes tournament was founded in 1992 by the Hong Kong Cricket and offered a unique version of cricket. Players thoroughly enjoyed this tournament, as its main focus was on hitting sixes for fun. The tournament typically lasted for 3-4 days and featured 6 to 12 participating teams. Over the years, the tournament showcased cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Damien Martyn, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, and Muttiah Muralidharan. The most successful teams in the tournament were Australia and England, with India winning the tournament once in 2005.
Rules and Regulations of the HK6
The rules are pretty much the straight forward as listed:
- The match will feature two teams of six players each.
- Each innings will consist of 5 overs, and in the finals, teams will bowl 8 balls instead of 6 balls.
- Every player in the team, except the wicketkeeper, should bowl an over.
- Each no-ball and wide will cost 2 runs.
- If five wickets fall before the end of an innings, the last batter who is at the non-striker's end should bat until his wicket falls.
- Batters will be forced to retire after they score 31 runs, but they can come back as the last remaining wicket.
