Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been officially appointed as the new head coach of the Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2027 season, signalling the beginning of a new era for the franchise.
Ganguly will take over from Hemang Badani, who was in charge of the team for the previous two seasons. The appointment marks another important chapter in Ganguly’s association with the Delhi Capitals, having already played several key roles within the franchise over the years.
The former India skipper first joined the Delhi-based franchise as an advisor in 2019. He later took on the role of Director of Cricket, overseeing both the men’s and women’s teams. His extensive experience in Indian cricket and familiarity with the franchise are expected to play a major role as Delhi Capitals look to build a stronger campaign in IPL 2027.
Ganguly the Coach
Ganguly has also gained coaching experience outside the IPL, having worked with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league. His knowledge of franchise cricket and experience in managing players could prove valuable as Delhi Capitals prepare for the upcoming season.
The franchise could also see another Indian cricket great become part of its coaching setup. Yuvraj Singh is reportedly expected to join the backroom staff as the team’s batting coach. The potential arrival of Yuvraj alongside Ganguly would add considerable experience and pedigree to the Capitals’ support staff.
Rishabh Pant Returns home
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to return to the Delhi Capitals following a player trade involving Kuldeep Yadav. Pant’s comeback could further strengthen the team’s leadership and batting options.
With Ganguly at the helm, Yuvraj potentially joining the coaching staff and Pant returning to the squad, Delhi Capitals are preparing for a fresh start. The combination could lay the foundation for an exciting new era in Delhi Capitals’ history.
