The marquee tournament of world cricket, the 50-over ICC World Cup, has received its first major update, with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia set to host the tournament from October 4 to November 21, 2027.
Tournament to Run from October 4 to November 21
The highly anticipated event returns four years after Australia stunned the cricketing world by winning the 2023 World Cup in India. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has now confirmed the tournament window for the 2027 edition. South Africa will serve as the primary host, staging 31 matches, while Zimbabwe will host 10 games, and Namibia will host three matches.
Australia Begin Title Defence Preparations
Preparations for the World Cup are already underway. Defending champions Australia are currently touring Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series and recently suffered a surprise series defeat, marking Bangladesh's first-ever ODI series win over Australia. The world champions have looked vulnerable in recent months, having now suffered consecutive ODI series defeats against Pakistan and Bangladesh.
India Kick Off Their Road to the World Cup
Meanwhile, India will begin their ODI series against Afghanistan tomorrow in Dharamsala. The hosts look strong on paper, although they will be without Virat Kohli for the series. However, the veteran batter is expected to return in time for India's ODI series against England.

India will also be closely monitoring the form of senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as preparations for the 2027 World Cup gather pace. Their experience will be crucial if India is to mount a serious challenge in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. At the same time, newly appointed ODI captain Shubman Gill faces a significant test. The young skipper is still searching for his first ODI series victory as captain after suffering defeats against Australia away from home and New Zealand at home.
With the road to the 2027 World Cup now officially underway, teams around the world are beginning their preparations for cricket's biggest 50-over spectacle. Stay tuned for more updates on the ICC World Cup 2027.
