Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav is all geared up to lead his side in the five-match T20I series against England. The first T20I will be played on Wednesday at Eden Gardens.
The Indian team, after a spell of high-voltage Test cricket, is returning back to playing T20I cricket. They last played T20I cricket against South Africa, a series that SKY Won as captain away from home.
There is huge anticipation leading into the first T20I in Kolkata on Wednesday. It's an even match-up between two quality sides. Both teams have several matchwinners. England have several players who are well-known to playing in Indian conditions courtesy of their stint in the IPL.
SKY is among the best T20I batters in world cricket at the moment. He is currently placed fourth in the ICC T20I rankings behind Tilak Varma. Very interestingly, while speaking to ESPN Cricinfo way back in 2019, SKY named the Indian bowler who he doesn't want to face in the nets. He took Jasprit Bumrah's name in that interaction.
"I just avoid facing him (in the nets)! I have actually seen him bowl too much at international level. I have faced him a lot when I was at Mumbai Indians in his first year (in 2013). I was batting in the nets, and he was like literally on fire when he was bowling. There was something, a big spark. From that day till today, I've never batted against him in the nets. Never" SKY said.
"There's no one other than him (that I don't want to face in the nets). Only Bumrah. That guy is something else. I'm telling you, seriously. I mean, why do you want to face the fastest bowler, and a toe-crusher, that too in the nets?," he laughs. "In the game, it's fine. I've told him also very clearly," he further added.
Jasprit Bumrah Rested For England T20Is
SKY and Bumrah are playing together with Mumbai Indians in the IPL since 2018. Speaking about Bumrah, he recently played in the Test series against Australia and finished with 32 wickets. He is now on a break with the team management looking to get him fit for the Champions Trophy.
