Shubman Gill took an important catch of in-form Travis Head off Varun Chakravarthy’s bowling. Shubman had to run from long-on to make that spectacular catch.
However, this catch caused some tension on the field as the umpires called Shubman over to warn him about the time he held onto the ball before throwing it. The umpire reminded him to hang onto it for a while longer before releasing it, but Shubman threw the ball just moments after catching it.
Travis Head, who had looked in firm control during the powerplay after a slow start, began to shift gears quickly, hitting boundaries and sixes. Just when Indian fans thought this would be another classic performance from Travis Head against India, Varun Chakravarthy worked his magic to dismiss him, with Shubman Gill taking a remarkable catch under pressure.
'Lucky' Steve Smith
As for Steve Smith, he was batting on 23 runs when Axar bowled a length delivery that resulted in an inside edge, causing the ball to roll down and hit the bottom of the stumps. Smith was fortunate that the bails didn’t fall, allowing him to survive that delivery. Australia has been lucky on multiple occasions during this innings—from Shami dropping Travis Head to this near-dismissal of Steve Smith.
Australia is making steady progress, with Smith and Marnus Labuschagne adding a 50-run partnership. However, Ravindra Jadeja provided a breakthrough by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne, trapping him LBW and breaking the partnership. As it stands, Australia is at 113/3, with Steve Smith and Josh Inglis at the crease. Stay tuned for more updates!
