Delhi Capitals successfully restricted Mumbai Indians to a low total of 123 runs, marking it as Mumbai's lowest score of the season. The Delhi bowlers worked smart, displaying exceptional skills throughout the match.
In the first 10 overs, Mumbai Indians seemed to be progressing steadily, posting a score of 68/2. However, with the introduction of Jess Jonassen into the bowling attack, the situation changed dramatically. Jonassen’s four overs proved crucial as she prevented the Mumbai batters from accelerating their scoring and picked up key wickets at regular intervals.
Jess Jonassen's Valuable Contribution
A partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt provided some momentum in the middle overs, with the pair adding 38 runs off 27 balls. This was the highest partnership of the innings. Jess Jonassen broke this partnership by trapping Harmanpreet Kaur LBW, sending the MI captain back to the pavilion with 22 runs off 16 balls.
In her next over, Jonassen dismissed the in-form Nat Sciver-Brunt for 18 runs off 22 balls. This dismissal was particularly significant as it marked Sciver-Brunt's lowest score of the season, having previously scored three fifties in her last four innings.
Minnu Mani Dismantles MI's Lower Middle Order
With Mumbai struggling at 85/4 in the 15th over, Amelia Kerr managed to hit a few boundaries, increasing the scoring rate to 6 runs per over. However, Minnu Mani responded effectively by taking two wickets in consecutive balls during the 17th over, dismissing both Amelia Kerr and S. Sajana. This left Mumbai at 101/6.
The tail end of Mumbai’s batting lineup failed to add much to the score, and they finished their innings at 123/9 after 20 overs, setting a target of 124 for Delhi Capitals.
DC bowlers restrict MI to a below par total
Delhi Capitals' bowling performance was outstanding, led by Jess Jonassen with figures of 3 for 21 and Minnu Mani with 3 for 17 in their four overs. The rest of the bowlers also contributed by claiming one wicket each.
Overall, Mumbai Indians struggled to build any significant momentum, with the only highlight being the 18 runs scored by Harmanpreet Kaur in one over.Â
Stay tuned for more updates as Delhi Capitals prepare to chase down this below-par total in Bengaluru.
