The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 is set to kick off with Gujarat Giants (GG) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday, February 14, at the newly built stadium in Vadodara. RCB are the defending champions and will be oozing with confidence ahead of the start of WPL season 3. Meanwhile, GG would like to turn a corner after finishing rock bottom of the points table on both occasions.
Ahead of the season opener, though RCB received a massive setback as leg spinner Asha Shobana will miss the entire WPL season with a knee injury. Also RCB are also sweating on the fitness of star players Ellyse Perry and Shreyanka Patil. On the other hand, GG does not need to worry about injury aspect as all their players are fit and available.

Shobana's absence from injury will disrupt RCB's playing XI. Nonetheless, RCB have Sophie Molineux and Shreyanka Patil (Subject to fitness) solve the spin issues. Sophie Devine's absence at the top allows Danielle Wyatt-Hodge to express herself freely at the top. RCB have managed to keep the core group intact and is hoping to start the WPL 2025 campaign on a winning note.
Meanwhile, GG will have a new captain for season 3, as Beth Mooney their captain in the first two seasons, has relinquished the captaincy. Ash Gardner will be leading GG, who are yet to crack a secret formula for success in WPL. This time GG have managed to assemble a strong core with a nice blend of youth and experience. Gardner will be the key player, alongside Dendra Dottin and Laura Wolvaardt.
