Bangladesh registered a thumping innings & 106-run win against Zimbabwe on day three of the second Test between BAN vs ZIM in Chattogram. Heading to the third day, the visitors needed only three wickets to wrap things up and keep the lead below 120 runs. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz had other ideas as he slammed 104 runs to enable Bangladesh to take a solid lead of 224 runs. In reply, Zimbabwe's batters imploded as they were all out for 111 runs inside 50 overs.
Later, with the ball in hand, Miraz picked up five wickets, and Taijul Islam ended up taking three wickets as Bangladesh stunned the visitors to level the two-match Test series 1-1.
After trailing 0-1, Bangladesh made a statement of sorts in the second Test match with a thumping performance with bat and ball. With bat in hand, besides Miraz, Shadnam Islam also scored a century. In the bowling, Taijul Islam was again the pick of the bowlers in the second innings also, to go with a six-wicket haul in the first innings. For Zimbabwe, only opener Ben Curran's 46 runs have looked convincing. The rest of the batters were guilty of gifting their wickets away.
Only Craig Ervine & Ben Cuuran's partnership gave some confidence to the Zimbabwe fans. However, the former's dismissal crashed the visitors' hopes of taking the lead.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz the hero as Bangladesh make stunning comeback to win second Test
Those handy runs lower down the order by Mehidy Hasan Miraz have completely shifted the game in Bangladesh's favor. His century and five wickets in the second innings were a game changer. Also, the ball was gripping a bit late on the third day, which the Bangladesh spinners duly cashed in on. Besides Miraz, Taijul Islam chipped in with three wickets. After a spirited performance in the first Test, Zimbabwe failed to put up a fight in the second Test.
They also missed a rare opportunity for a series whitewash in the subcontinent conditions. Nonetheless, they managed to do some learning from the tour, which should stand them in good stead ahead.
