Kyle Verreynne is a South African wicketkeeper-batsman who plays for the Western Province and the South African national cricket team. He was born on 12 May, 1997 in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. He is currently 28 years old.
Not much is known about Verreynne’s personal life and family. It is reported that he lost his father a few years ago, and his mother was the one who supported him during his formative years and provided an impetus to his growth. He has no siblings, none that are publicly known anyway. It was his early coach, Ashwell “Ashy P” Prince, who coached and guided him early on in his career and acted as a father figure to him.
Kyle grew up in Cape Town, around the famous cricket ground, Newlands. Being in close vicinity to Newlands from an early age, he became involved in the local cricket culture and fostered a love for the game from an early age. His mother was very supportive of him pursuing his cricketing career since he was young. He started playing in local cricket clubs and also participated in age-group teams, where he sharpened his skills as the player he is today.
Verreynne attended the Wynberg Boys’ High School in Cape Town, which is a highly reputed school in Cape Town known for its academics as well as strong cricketing culture. Notably, the alumni of the school include the legendary Jacques Kallis and also the talented Richard Levi. Here, he balanced his academics and sporting culture, ultimately deciding to choose cricket as his calling.
Not much is known about Verreynne’s private life. Some sources suggest that he is engaged to his long-term girlfriend Amy Claire. However, there is no concrete news about his relationship status from any reputable sources. He is also not married, and whether and when he plans to do so is also unknown.
Kyle Verreynne Religion & Beliefs
There is no publicly available information about Verreynne’s religion and personal beliefs. Some people call him Christian, but these are, again, not reputable sources. He is also not seen talking about his beliefs in any interview so far. Just like we discussed earlier, he keeps his personal life hidden from the public eye.
Kyle Verreynne Passions & Off-Field Interests
Verreynne’s interest in sports does not end with cricket. He loves golf and loves practicing it in his own backyard. He also loves playing video games on his PlayStation and loves watching series on OTT platforms, which he did extensively during the lockdown. He is into staying fit and in shape for both his professional needs and personal life. He loves healthy eating and often experiments in making smoothies by himself. He has also stated that he wants to avoid pressure from the public and only wants to focus on his cricket.
Other than that, he is also associated with a few education and sports development charities, though details are scarce. He often acts as a mentor to younger cricketers and guides them.
Kyle Verreynne made his first-class cricket debut for Western Province against Griqualand West in the Sunfoil 3-Day Cup held from 22-24 January 2015. He scored a single run but caught two behind the wicket, showing early promise as a wicketkeeper. He made his T20 debut for Western Province in September 2016 in the 2016 Africa T20 Cup against Namibia, where he played a decent knock of 37 off 34 balls. He was first named the captain of Western Province in the CSA One-Day Cup in 2023. He captained the team to a victory in the same tournament, scoring a blistering 111 off 103 balls in the final.
He started his franchise journey in June 2018 with the Cape Cobras, and in the maiden season of the Mzansi Super League, he was named in the squad of the Cape Town Blitz 2018. He also played for Joburg Super Kings in the 2023 SA20 cup. He was offered a deal in 2024 to play for the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club in the County Championship for 3 matches, a deal which he accepted. He smashed a spectacular 148 against Warwickshire in the third match and was subsequently retained for the 2025 season.
Kyle made his first international debut against Australia on February 29, 2020, in an ODI match where he scored 48 off 64 balls. His Test debut came against the West Indies on 10 June 2021 at Gros Islet, St Lucia. He didn’t perform up to expectations in his debut match. However, his Test highlight came against New Zealand on February 28, 2022, where he scored 136* off 148 balls as his first Test maiden century. His second was scored against Bangladesh on October 22, 2024, which made him the first South African wicketkeeper to score a century in Bangladesh.
He was named in the squad of South Africa in their T20I match against Pakistan in March 2021, but he has not yet made his T20I debut. He recently helped South Africa win their first-ever World Test Championship title against Australia at Lord’s. He scored the winning run for his country as they broke into jubilation.
Verreynne didn’t sustain any notable injuries in recent years. But at age 16, he sustained a major wrist injury while playing hockey. He had fractures from his wrists to his knuckles, and he had to undergo surgery where four metal plates had to be inserted into his hand, which seriously put his cricketing career in jeopardy. Post surgery, however, he recovered just fine and was able to continue with his duties as a batsman and a wicketkeeper.
He has a strong physique and he emphasises fitness, mainly focusing on strength training, agility and core training as part of his regular fitness routine. Luckily, he hasn’t been majorly injured since his wrist fracture, and he is usually injury-free.

He isn’t as popular as some of his cricketing peers on social media, but if he keeps playing well, he will surely gain more popularity on social media. He doesn’t post a lot about his personal life and mostly focuses on posting about cricket, whether it is for his franchise team or for his national team.
