Gwalior International Stadium, also known as the Shrimat Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, was originally named after Olympic hockey gold medallist Captain Roop Singh before being renamed. This venue transitioned from hosting hockey matches to cricket matches in the 1980s. Established in 1980, the stadium was inaugurated with a capacity of 30,000, and currently, the association is planning to increase the capacity to 50,000 after renovation.
The stadium serves as the host for the Madhya Pradesh state team during domestic tournaments and occasionally hosts high-profile IPL matches. Although it does not host international matches regularly, this stadium witnessed the moment when the legendary Sachin Tendulkar became the first ever batter in the world to score an ODI double century. Apart from this, it has hosted several ODI matches and one T20I match.
The pitch here is known to be batting-friendly; however, the surface assists spinners as the innings progress despite its initially flat nature. The outfield is fast, with smaller boundaries, which makes this venue favorable for both batters and bowlers.
