The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, better known as Uppal Stadium, is in the eastern part of Hyderabad in the suburb of Uppal. It has a capacity of around 39,200 people. The Hyderabad Cricket Association owns and runs it, and it is the regular home ground for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
Before this ground came up, cricket in the city, including international matches, was played at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium. When the new stadium got ready, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, decided to name it after former India Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
There are two ends here called the South End and the North End. When VVS Laxman retired, the HCA decided to honour the Hyderabad-born star by naming the North End after him. Since then, the ground has seen plenty of big games and is a regular stop for both domestic and international cricket.
