The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has been one of Pakistan's primary cricketing venues since its opening in 1992. Built to replace the old Pindi Club Ground, the stadium hosted its first international game in January 1992 when Pakistan faced Sri Lanka in an ODI. A year later, it welcomed its first Test match against Zimbabwe, becoming part of Pakistanās growing list of Test grounds. In 2020, it hosted its first T20I which took place between Pakistan and Zimbabwe.
The stadium serves as the home ground for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League. It has also seen important moments in history. It hosted matches in the 1996 World Cup and was a venue for the return of Test cricket in 2019 in Pakistan when Sri Lanka toured Pakistan. With the addition of floodlights in 2001, the ground has been able to host both day and night fixtures. Just a short 20-minute drive from Islamabad, it is also the only international venue in the capitalās territory.
In preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025, the stadium underwent a major renovation in 2024-25. The project added new seating arrangements, bringing the total capacity to around 18,000.
