The Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah is one of the most famous cricket grounds in the UAE. It was built up in the early 1980s and has already undergone multiple phases of construction and design upgrades. The ground has hosted several international and Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
In terms of layout, the boundary lengths are compact and this makes the ground ideal for high-scoring games. The straight boundary measures around 58 metres, long-on is about 62 metres and the mid-wicket arc stretches close to 65 metres.
The Sharjah Cricket Stadium has seen many memorable cricketing moments but none bigger than Sachin Tendulkar’s famous knocks in the 1997-98 Coca-Cola Cup. His 143 and 134 against Australia are still remembered as masterpieces. Apart from international matches, the ground has also hosted several IPL games when the tournament shifted to the UAE in 2014, 2020 and 2021.
