Potential Contenders to Replace Harmanpreet Kaur
As soon as the rumor started, there was a lot of talk about a potential captaincy change ahead of the home game. Former Indian Captain Mithali Raj was one to address this during her press conference ahead of the Knockouts of the T20 World Cup. When asked about the potential captaincy change for the Indian team, she said:
“If the selectors decide to change, I would go for a young captain. This is the time (to change) if you delay more then we have another World Cup on the horizon. If you are not doing it now, then don't do it later. Then it is too close to the World Cup”.
She also mentioned the likes of Smriti Mandhana, who could be the automatic replacement as a future captain. Since she has been the Vice-Captain and did a decent job as a captain whenever Kaur is rested or injured. She also led Royal Challengers Bangalore to their first WPL trophy. Other than her, she also mentioned an interesting name, Jemimah Rodrigues, a young captain to build for the future. An interesting option from the legend. Jemimah is a good batter, but does she have the captaincy instinct? She does have a good influence on and off the field, and being young, she could be that long-term option as well.
