Delhi Capitals bowlers Shikha Pandey and Marizanne Kapp were exceptional against the Gujarat Giants batters, taking wickets consistently and reducing them to 54 for 5 after 10 overs. The Capitals bowlers displayed great accuracy, effectively hitting the right lines and lengths to dismiss the top order with ease.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first in Bengaluru. Openers Phoebe Litchfield and Harleen Deol stepped onto the pitch for the Gujarat Giants. Their start was decent, as both Deol and Litchfield managed to navigate the early swing of the new ball, scoring 16 without loss in 3 overs. However, Marizanne Kapp continued her aggressive bowling and claimed Harleen Deol's wicket with a back of length delivery, that had a bit of outswing Deol edged the ball to the Wicket Keeper dismissing her for just 5 runs off 10 balls.
Just two balls later, Kapp trapped Litchfield, in a LBW with a good-length delivery that nipped back sharply, resulting in a successful review confirming the on-field umpire's decision. From a promising start of 16 for 0, the Giants quickly found themselves at 16 for 2, thanks to South African captain Marizanne Kapp.
Shikha Pandey maintained the pressure from proir Kapp’s over, taking down in-form batters Beth Mooney and Kashvee Gautham in consecutive deliveries. Out of nowhere, the Gujarat Giants were reduced to 24 for 4 in 5 overs.
With the experienced Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin at the crease, they tried to stabilize the innings, playing carefully and finding boundaries at regular intervals. Despite their efforts, the Capitals remained dominant, having claimed 4 wickets during the powerplay. Both Kapp and Pandey effectively utilized the new ball in the grassy conditions of Bengaluru.
At the end of the 6-over powerplay, the score for the Gujarat Giants was 31 for 4, with Marizanne Kapp taking 2 wickets for 8 runs and Shikha Pandey grabbing 2 wickets for 18 runs.
The innings continued, with Delhi Capitals bowlers maintaining tight overs after the powerplay, building pressure at one end and continuing to take wickets. Titas Sadhu delivered a stunning ball, that clean bowled Ashleigh Gardner, leaving the Giants in dire straits with half of their side back in the pavilion by the end of the 8th over.
Deandra Dottin emerged as the lone batter holding the innings together, ending with 22 runs off 20 balls as the Gujarat Giants limped to a total of 54 for 5 at the end of 10 overs.
