As it happened, England Masters posted a competitive total of 157/6 in the first innings despite losing both of their openers early on in their match against South Africa Masters. Despite the initial setbacks, England recovered well with Tim Ambrose leading the charge with his half-century. Their captain Eoin Morgan complemented him well, giving his bowlers something to fight for in the second innings.

The eighth match of the International Masters League T20 2025 began with South Africa Masters winning the toss and choosing to field. The first few overs were tough for England. They quickly lost two wickets with both Phil Mustard and Ian Bell getting dismissed inside the first 10 balls. While Mustard was dismissed by Vernon Philander, Bell perished at the hands of Garnett Kruger. This put England under immediate pressure.

Surviving this early scare, Eoin Morgan and Tim Ambrose came together to stabilize the innings. They focused on building a partnership, running singles and doubles and hitting the occasional boundary. Their approach was cautious, aiming to build a foundation for the later overs.

As the innings progressed, the South African bowlers, including their spiners, tried to break the partnership. They bowled tight lines and lengths, attempting to restrict the scoring. Morgan and Ambrose responded by playing smart cricket, rotating the strike and finding gaps in the field.

While Morgan put the price on his wicket, Ambrose took on the aggressor’s role. The duo forged a 73-run partnership off 55 balls that was brought to an end by Henry Davids.

Meanwhile, Ambrose brought up his fifty but slowed down during the latter half of his innings. Wickets continued to tumble. It looked as if England would end up with a below-par total.

However, Chris Schofield and Chris Tremlett hit some lusty blows. While Schofield hit two consecutive sixes off Makhaya Ntini in the 18th over, Tremlett went a step ahead of his partner and cleared the ropes three times in a row in the last over, finishing off with a game-changing 4-ball 19.

In the end, England Masters gave South Africa Masters a target of 157 runs.
