Summary

Jofra Archer has landed himself in some trouble for wearing the wrong socks in his county cricket return playing for Essex against Durham.

Jofra Archer wearing black socks

England pacer Jofra Archer might face some punishment ahead of his return in the second Test against India. He returned back to playing county cricket after over 1500 days and made an instant impact.

Playing for Sussex, he almost took a wicket in the very first ball he bowled. He took a wicket for 28 runs for Sussex in their match against Durham at Chester-le-Street in the County Championship.

However, almost unknowingly, Jofra Archer has landed himself in some trouble for wearing the wrong socks. He was good with both bat and ball and now sees himself in trouble. His sanction comes for the same reason, Shubman Gill was booked by the ICC as well.

Jofra Archer Makes County Cricket Return

As per the rules in County Championships, the socks players can wear is either white or grey and Archer wore black socks.

"According to clause 19.45 of the ICC's Clothing and Equipment Rules, players can only wear 'white, cream, or light grey' socks in Test matches," said the ECB statement.

Meanwhile, Archer returns for England at the right time for his team. In the first Test against India, the English bowlers conceded more than 800 runs in the two innings combined. The pacer's return might be timely as the English attack still misses a prospect like him.

National selector Luke Wright revealed earlier this month when England hopes to have Archer back available.

"The plan is for him to play a few second-team games, loading up in the second team for Sussex. And then the idea for him is to play for Sussex against Durham during the first Test. Then if all things go well, fingers crossed, he should be available for the second Test."

Stokes On Archer's Return

Ben Stokes, before the first Test, spoke about how badly Jofra Archer wants to make his Test return. Since his international debut in 2019, he has played just 13 Test matches in his career, which has been marred by repeated elbow injuries.

"He’s been absolutely desperate to put the white shirt back on. Randomly, a couple of times, he would just send me a text saying, ‘Zim?. I was like, ‘Let’s just hold it right there, all right. I know you’re in a good spot right now, but let’s not just rush into it" Stokes said in the pre-match press conference ahead of the first Test.
