After a challenging three months of Test cricket, which saw India suffering a 0-3 whitewash at home, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 in Australia, and missing out on the World Test Championship Finals, the BCCI has taken swift action to address the team's performance. In line with their efforts to strengthen the team, the BCCI is now planning to organize a series of three 4-day warm-up matches for India ahead of their upcoming Test series in England. The Board has been in discussions with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and is expected to make an official announcement soon.
This initiative comes as a crucial step to help players transition from the fast-paced T20 format of the IPL, which most of the Test squad will have just finished, back to the rigors of Test cricket. The warm-up matches will play a vital role in preparing the players for the challenging conditions in England.
"We had a similar 'A' tour to Australia before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. These matches will help players adjust to English conditions and give them a chance to play red-ball cricket again after some time," a BCCI source told PTI
India A had a tour to Australia before the BGT Series, which turned out to be a promising experience despite the losses. Dhurv Jurel's inclusion on the team allowed him to showcase his abilities; he had the opportunity to play in the first test and contributed to the team's victory. As part of their preparation, India is likely to face the England Lions, a traditional warm-up game when they visit England. This match could help the Indian players build much-needed confidence and regain their good form.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to Play in Ranji Trophy
India’s most experienced batters are set to play in the Ranji Trophy after a decade. This decision comes in light of their poor performance in longer formats and the BCCI's recent policy that mandates even veteran players to participate in domestic games to secure their place on the national team.
After the IPL, Virat Kohli may also represent Surrey in County Cricket; however, with this series ongoing, it remains uncertain whether he will sign a new contract. In recent newsVirat Kohli has been dealing with a neck strain, which puts him in doubt for the Delhi team’s match scheduled for January 23.
