All eyes were on Virat Kohli in the ongoing third ODI against England in Ahmedabad after his twin failures with bat in hand in two games. On a batting-friendly surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the former India captain found his mojo and struck a fluent 55-ball 52. Giving Kohli company was vice-captain Shubman Gill, who got to his third consecutive fifty. The duo stabilized India's innings with a 122-run second-wicket partnership.
After the fall of skipper Rohit Sharma, Gill, and Kohli ensured that India got a good start in the power play. The duo attacked England's pacers Mark Wood, Saqib Mahmood, and Gus Atkinson and kept the run scoring moving at over five runs per over. Just when Kohli was about to cash in on a big score, his nemesis Adil Rashid struck to send him back at 52.
Nonetheless, Indian management and fans would have heaved a sigh of relief that Kohli is back among the runs.
Shubman Gill shines in his 50th ODI match
Meanwhile, Gill yet again proved why he is rated highly as he brought his 16th fifty in his 50th ODI for India. Ever since making his ODI debut for India in 2019, the 25-year-old has thrived as an opener and gotten India off to brisk starts up front. Also, the right-hand opener has played according to the situation and has not batted only in one mode. In today's match, Gill allowed Kohli to settle by being the aggressor in the second-wicket partnership.
