Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced the signing of Vidarbha all-rounder Harsh Dubey as a replacement for the injured Smaran Ravichandran for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
Ravichandran, who was himself a replacement for Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, has been ruled out of the tournament due to an undisclosed injury, prompting SRH to bring in Dubey. The 30-lakh signing is expected to bolster the team’s spin bowling and lower-order batting options as they prepare to face Delhi Capitals (DC) in their upcoming fixture on May 5.
Harsh Dubey, a left-arm spinner and handy lower-order batter, has made waves in domestic cricket with his stellar performances for Vidarbha. The all-rounder holds an impressive record, having claimed 127 wickets and scored 941 runs across 16 T20s, 20 List A matches, and 18 First-Class matches.Â
His standout achievement came earlier this year when he broke the Ranji Trophy record for the most wickets in a single season, bagging 69 scalps. He also scored 476 runs and was named Player of the Tournament in Vidarbha’s title-winning campaign.
Dubey’s signing marks the second replacement for SRH this season, following Zampa’s exit after he played just two matches. The team’s spin bowling resources have been tested, with Zeeshan Ansari and Kamindu Mendis being the primary options. However, Mendis has struggled to secure a regular spot in the playing XI due to the competition among overseas players.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Face Delhi Capitals in Must-Win Game
After losing to Gujarat Titans (GT) by 38 runs in their last match, the Sunrisers are in a must-win situation. With four matches remaining, they would have to secure wins in all of these games to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
At the moment, the Pat Cummins-led side is second-last on the IPL 2025 points table with just three wins after 10 matches. Four more wins will take them to 14 points, which might not be enough to reach the playoffs.
SRH will be up against DC at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 5.
