Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been under pressure due to his poor form with the bat since the Australia Test series. He scored 31 runs in five innings at an average of just 6.
The problems continued with his being poorly out of form in domestic cricket as well. He scored just 3 and 28 in the two innings against Jammu & Kasmir. It was not a happy return to red-ball cricket for the Indian skipper.
J&K pacer Umar Nazir Mir troubled him with his pace in the game and he could not do much about it. He played only one Ranji match against Jammu & Kashmir and will be returning to play ODI cricket with the series against England.
Rohit Sharma Complains Against Sunil Gavaskar
Meanwhile, as per reports in Cricblogger, the Indian skipper complained about Sunil Gavaskar's harsh criticism to the top brass of the BCCI. He complained about Sunil Gavaskar's negative criticism in one of their meetings, stating that the external pressure impacted his performance.
“Rohit felt that it was not necessary for Sunil Gavaskar to criticise him in that fashion, and that’s why he complained to the BCCI about Gavaskar,” CricBlogger reported a source as saying.
During the Test series against Australia, Gavakar remarked that Rohit would step down as India's Test skipper if he did not score runs in the final two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney. As it turned out, Rohit did not play the final Test in Sydney as India lost the series 3-1. The series loss knocked India out of the World Test Championship final race as well.
Rohit might not be retained as the Test skipper by the time India plays their next Test series against England in June.
“The skipper, Rohit Sharma, was out of his depth and having taken the brave decision to step aside, because of his form, he has also raised big questions about his future in Test cricket" Gavaskar had written in his column for The Sydney Morning Herald during the tour.
The news regarding Rohit complaining about Gavaskar came out when the two met at Mumbai Cricket Association's 50th-anniversary celebrations earlier this month.
“All these added so much pressure that he was compelled to tell it all to BCCI,” the source added.
